Job Description
Summary
The Advanced Services Technician will work under the direction of the Advanced Services Manager performing Advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and traditional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and techniques to evaluate the integrity of materials and structures across various industries. Technician may work independently or closely with other team members in various disciplines, while following office procedures, policies and guidelines set forth in the latest version of DPSI’s MI Written Practice.
Essential Job Functions
Conventional NDT Inspections
- Perform various inspections including, but not limited to Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Visual Testing (VT), and Leak Testing (LT).
Advanced NDT Methods
- Perform various NDT methods, may include but not limited to Advanced Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), Remote Video Inspection (RVI) / Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV), Thermal/Infrared (IR), and Laser Profilometry (LPT) – “Creaform”.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Maintain meticulous records of all inspections, including the methods used, results obtained, and any anomalies detected.
- Analyze inspection data to provide meaningful insights and identify trends that may require further investigation.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Proficiently use various NDT instruments, ensuring proper techniques are followed to achieve accurate results.
- Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of NDT equipment to ensure compliance with operational standards and safety regulations.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of NDT supplies and materials, ordering new equipment as necessary.
Reporting & Documentation
- Create comprehensive inspection reports that summarize findings, methodologies, and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Ensure all reports and records comply with industry standards (e.g., ASNT, ASME, API) and internal quality assurance policies.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all NDT processes conform to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and insights into NDT practices.
Communication & Collaborative Support
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and quality assurance teams to discuss inspection results and their implications on project outcomes.
- Interact professionally with clients, clearly explaining inspection processes, findings, and any recommendations for action.
Safety
- Adhere to all company and industry safety standards, including personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Report any safety incidents or near misses promptly and participate in safety review meetings.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing inspection services.
Continuous Improvement
- Engage in ongoing training and certification programs to enhance technical skills and stay updated with industry advancements.
- Actively participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing NDT processes, equipment usage, and overall efficiency.
Leadership
- Mentor and assist in training junior inspectors with field equipment setup, data collection, inspections, and report composition.
Requirements
Experience Required
- 5+ years of practical experience in conventional NDT, with a focus on advanced techniques in various industrial applications.
- 2+ years of experience in advanced inspection services, with a focus on NDT techniques.
- 5+ years of experience completing inspections on weldments, pipelines, pressure vessels, and tanks.
- Experience working with advanced NDT services equipment.
Education Required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field is preferred.
- Certification in ASNT Level II or III in at least one traditional NDT method (UT, MT, PT, VT).
